The Ford Mustang
Rear-wheel drive. A naturally aspirated V8 you can still order with a manual gearbox. A shape people recognize from across a parking lot. The Ford Mustang is the last American sports car of its kind, and at Dennis Sneed Ford in Gower, MO, we sell them to Kansas City metro buyers who could have bought one a lot closer to home and chose not to.
Why buy a Ford Mustang?
The Ford Mustang is a rear-wheel-drive sports car offered as a fastback or convertible, with a turbocharged four-cylinder or a V8. It remains one of the few new cars available with a naturally aspirated V8 and a manual transmission, and it seats four with a usable trunk.
Most of what used to compete with the Mustang is gone. What is left is a car that still does the fundamental thing correctly: engine in front, drive wheels in back, and a lineup that runs from a genuinely quick turbocharged four all the way to a 500-horsepower track-focused flagship.
It is also more usable than its reputation suggests. Four seats, a 13.5 cubic foot trunk on the fastback, and driver-assist technology that makes a long highway run painless. Plenty of the Mustangs we deliver are daily drivers, not weekend cars.
Shopping the 2026 Ford Mustang?
The 2026 Mustang adds three new colors, new seat belt color options, and two new packages — the FX Package on GT Premium and the RTR Package on the EcoBoost fastback. Our complete 2026 buyer's guide covers all five series, every engine, and which models you can actually get as a convertible.
What models does the Ford Mustang come in?
The Mustang lineup runs EcoBoost, EcoBoost Premium, GT, GT Premium, and Dark Horse. EcoBoost models use a turbocharged four-cylinder, GT and GT Premium step up to the 5.0L V8, and Dark Horse is the performance flagship. All five are offered as a fastback; three are available as a convertible.
Mustang EcoBoost
A 2.3L EcoBoost turbocharged four rated at 315 horsepower on premium fuel, a 10-speed automatic, limited-slip rear axle, electronic line-lock, selectable drive modes, and a 12.4-inch digital cluster paired with a 13.2-inch touchscreen. Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard.
Mustang EcoBoost Premium
Adds ActiveX seating material, heated and cooled front seats, a heated steering wheel, ambient lighting with MyColor, approach detection lighting, and a nine-speaker audio system.
Mustang GT
Where the 5.0L Ti-VCT V8 arrives, with a 6-speed manual and rev matching standard, larger brake rotors with four-piston calipers, a hood vent, and a unique front fascia. The available GT Performance Package brings Brembo brakes, a TORSEN differential, and a drift brake.
Mustang GT Premium
GT hardware with the Premium interior and 19-inch wheels. Also the only V8 Mustang offered as a convertible, and the only model that can be ordered with the new FX Package.
Mustang Dark Horse
A modified Gen-4 5.0L Coyote V8 rated at 500 horsepower on premium fuel, standard MagneRide damping, Brembo six-piston front calipers, oil, transmission and differential coolers, a standard drift brake, and a unique chassis number on the dash. Fastback only.
Is the drive to Gower worth it for a Kansas City buyer?
For most Mustang shoppers, yes. Dennis Sneed Ford is about 45 minutes north of Kansas City on US-169, and a Mustang is a car people configure precisely — series, body style, transmission, color, packages. We factory-order, which usually beats settling for whatever is sitting on a metro lot.
Roughly 60% of our business comes from the Kansas City metro — Liberty, Smithville, Kearney, Overland Park, Lees Summit, and the surrounding suburbs — along with St. Joseph, Maryville, and Savannah to the north. Nobody buys a Mustang by accident. They know which one they want, and the hard part is finding it.
30 years. Family-owned. Ford Credit Partners in Quality.
Dennis Sneed Ford has been a family-owned Ford dealership in Gower, MO for 30 years, and the recognition behind the name is real:
- Top 5 Ford remarketing dealer in the country — we purchase 1,100+ late-model Ford and Lincoln vehicles directly from Ford each year.
- Ford Credit Partners in Quality — one of roughly 111 dealers nationally recognized for the highest customer satisfaction and loyalty.
- We factory-order — tell us the series, body style, transmission, and color you want and we will confirm it can be built before you commit to anything.
Should you buy a new or used Ford Mustang?
Both are worth looking at, and the Mustang is one of the few cars where a used example may be a genuinely different vehicle rather than just an older one. Engines, transmissions, and special editions have changed considerably across generations, so what you are buying depends heavily on the model year.
Shopping a new Mustang?
Browse new Mustang inventory across EcoBoost, EcoBoost Premium, GT, GT Premium, and Dark Horse. We can also factory-order one built to your exact spec — series, body style, transmission, color, wheels, stripes, and packages.
Shopping a used Mustang?
As a Top 5 Ford remarketing dealer we purchase over 1,100 late-model Ford and Lincoln vehicles directly from Ford each year, which is why late-model used Mustangs turn up here more regularly than at most stores our size. Call and we will tell you honestly whether new or used makes more sense for what you are after.

Ford Mustang questions, answered
Does the Ford Mustang still come with a manual transmission?
Yes. The Mustang GT and GT Premium come standard with a 6-speed manual transmission with rev matching, and the Dark Horse comes standard with a TREMEC 6-speed manual. The EcoBoost models are offered with a 10-speed automatic only, and that automatic is available on the V8 models as well.
Does the Ford Mustang come as a convertible?
Yes, in three models: the Mustang EcoBoost Convertible, the EcoBoost Premium Convertible, and the GT Premium Convertible. There is no GT convertible and no Dark Horse convertible, so getting a V8 with a folding top means stepping up to GT Premium.
How many people can a Ford Mustang seat?
Four. Both the fastback and the convertible have a maximum seating capacity of four. The fastback offers more trunk space and rear shoulder room than the convertible, at 13.5 cubic feet against 11.4.
Is the Ford Mustang rear-wheel drive?
Yes. Every Mustang is rear-wheel drive, across all five series and both body styles. All models use a limited-slip rear axle, with TORSEN differentials available on performance-package and Dark Horse models.
What is the difference between the Mustang GT and the Dark Horse?
The GT uses the 5.0L Ti-VCT V8, while the Dark Horse uses a modified Gen-4 5.0L Coyote V8 rated at 500 horsepower on premium fuel. The Dark Horse adds standard MagneRide damping, Brembo six-piston front calipers, engine oil, transmission and differential coolers, a standard drift brake, and unique chassis tuning. The Dark Horse is offered as a fastback only.
