What Changed Between the 2025 and 2026 F-150?
Very little on the scale. Base curb weights for matching configurations are the same or within about 40 pounds, and the best payload (2,440 pounds) and best towing (13,500 pounds) carry over. The changes show up in a few engine ratings:
- PowerBoost hybrid: the top payload rating rose from 1,815 pounds (2025) to 2,045 pounds (2026, 4x2), and the top towing rating rose from 11,200 to 12,400 pounds.
- 5.0L V8: maximum payload went from 2,225 to 2,235 pounds, while maximum towing moved from 12,900 to 12,800 pounds.
- 2.7L EcoBoost, 3.5L EcoBoost, and the Raptor engines: the top payload and towing ratings are unchanged.
You may still see older F-150 guides quote a 3,325-pound maximum payload. That number came from the Heavy-Duty Payload Package, which Ford dropped for the 2024 model year. For 2025 and 2026, the F-150's maximum payload is 2,440 pounds. Owners who regularly need more than that should look at a Super Duty F-250.
Curb Weight vs. GVWR vs. Payload: What the Numbers Mean
Curb Weight
What the truck weighs empty, with a full tank of fuel and all fluids, but no driver, passengers, or cargo.
GVWR
Gross vehicle weight rating: the most the loaded truck is allowed to weigh, including everyone in the cab, cargo in the bed, and trailer tongue weight.
Payload
How much you can add to the truck. Payload is GVWR minus curb weight, so every pound of options, people, and gear comes out of it.
Towing Capacity
The heaviest trailer the truck is rated to pull when properly equipped. It is a separate rating from payload, and both depend on the exact build.
The exact figures for any one truck are printed on two labels on the driver's side door jamb: the Safety Compliance Certification Label (GVWR) and the Tire and Loading Information label (the most passengers and cargo that truck can carry). Those labels beat any chart, including this one, because they reflect the options on that VIN.
